Mitsubishi Electric — International Manufacturing Investment
Overview
KMK Consulting (KMKC) assisted Mitsubishi Electric in establishing a new international manufacturing operation at its 52-acre campus in Mason, Ohio. In collaboration with Italy-based Mitsubishi Electric Hydronics & IT Cooling Systems S.p.A. (MEHITS), the project establishes MEHITS US, a new company established in Mason. The 154,000-square-foot east wing of the facility will be converted for laboratory testing, customized engineering, factory testing, and advanced manufacturing of industrial cooling systems. This investment builds on Mitsubishi Electric’s 38-year advanced manufacturing legacy in Mason and represents the company’s eighth expansion at the site.
challenges
This international investment required coordination across multiple Mitsubishi Electric divisions, leadership teams in Japan and Italy, domestic operations, and local stakeholders. The project involved evaluating options across multiple markets, managing complex timing around corporate restructuring, and maintaining confidentiality as plans evolved. Aligning a large group of stakeholders, including state and local governments, regional economic development partners, and the company’s global leadership, around a unified timeline and shared vision required patience, trust, and responsiveness.
outcomes
KMKC worked closely with Mitsubishi Electric and its partners throughout the process, understanding the company’s business needs, evaluating options across multiple markets, and keeping stakeholders aligned as plans evolved. KMKC managed the incentive analysis and negotiations, securing a tailored package including a nine-year Ohio Job Creation Tax Credit, an Economic Participation and Performance Grant from the Mason Port Authority, and a Community Reinvestment Act property tax abatement. These efforts maximized the company’s investment while reinforcing Mason’s position as a hub for advanced manufacturing, technology, and foreign direct investment. The project will create 180 jobs with $12.5 million in new annual payroll.
