Nick VehrBack

Nick Vehr is a Senior Consultant and Of Counsel with KMK Consulting. He is the founder and President of Vehr Communications, LLC, a company that provides a broad range of strategic communications services to businesses and organizations.

Nick’s professional career is highlighted by high-level engagements requiring substantial skills in strategic thinking, consensus development, business analysis, planning and management, and the use of strategic communications to achieve business objectives. Past leadership positions for Nick have been in the public sector as an appointed and elected official, in the non-profit sector as President, Vice President, Board Chair and Board member and, with various for-profit companies, as equity partner or senior member of strategic leadership teams.

Nick served as the Vice President, Economic Development and Marketing for the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber (2002-2006), the fifth largest Chamber in the U.S. He guided the efforts of the Cincinnati USA Partnership, a $25-million (five-year) regional economic development initiative. All marketing, public relations and e-media accountabilities of the Chamber also reported to Nick.

Earlier in his career, Nick served as Vice President and Executive Counselor of Dan Pinger Public Relations (DPPR) (1994-2002) where he provided strategic communications counsel to a broad range of clients in all industry sectors and served as a senior member of the agency management team. In 1996, Nick founded Cincinnati 2012 Inc., an organization that sought designation from the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) to be the U.S. Candidate City for the 2012 Olympic Games. The non-profit corporation ceased operations in 2002, having raised more than $6 million, secured more than 2,000 volunteers and developed a comprehensive Olympic Games operational plan. Cincinnati was considered one of six finalist cities; New York City was selected. The 2012 Olympic Games ultimately were awarded to London.

Nick served on Cincinnati City Council from approximately 1990 through 1996. He resigned his seat in 1996 to create Cincinnati 2012, Inc. He is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame (1977-1981) where he earned two Bachelor of Arts degrees (English and Communications). He attended Notre Dame on an NCAA scholarship (football) and was a member of the 1977 National Championship team. Nick has served on numerous non-profit Boards and Advisory Committees. He is currently Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cincinnati USA Convention and Visitors Bureau. He also serves on the Boards of the Cincinnati USA Regional Tourism Network and the Greater Cincinnati Tall Stacks Commission. Nick is a lifelong resident of the City of Cincinnati. He and his wife Laura have three children: Lindsay, Nick, Jr., and Kelsey.
