Terry is an Affiliated Consultant who has served for 13 years as President & CEO of the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce, one of the largest chambers in the nation. His most significant initiative as the Chamber’s chief executive was the development and implementation of a major economic development program. This program is still fundamentally in place and continues to serve as the blueprint to lead and guide Fort Worth's economic expansion efforts today.
During his long and successful tenure at the Fort Worth Chamber, which began in 1988, he was elected Chairman of the National Association of Chamber Executives and also was the recipient of the Texas Chambers' Martin Hurley Award.
After retiring from the Fort Worth Chamber, Terry first served as a director of the major (now sold) community Fort Worth Bank and currently is a senior advisor to the President of the University of Texas at Arlington. He continues to be actively involved in a number of community activities.
Prior to his work as a Chamber executive and business advisor, Terry started what would become a 25-year banking career in a country bank in Joliet Illinois, now the flagship bank of First Midwest Bankshares. He later moved to The Northern Trust Co. as a management trainee and thereafter accepted a position at the Denver U. S. National Bank, the second largest bank in Colorado. Terry served there in many capacities including credit and investment analysis, as Vice President of Correspondent Banking, and later in Community Affairs & Communications. He then was selected as president of a newly acquired bank in 1973, and through 1983 Terry was responsible for the management and supervision of several of United's Denver banks.
In 1984 he relocated to Fort Worth to start a new bank and served as a director for three banks of the First Midwest BankShares, including the bank where he had started his career. In 1987 he became Managing Director of Korn Ferry's North Texas, Oklahoma, & Colorado activities before he was elected by Fort Worth business leaders to lead the Forth Worth Chamber.
Terry graduated from Yale University and completed additional work at the Aspen Institute, as well as an Advanced Management Program at Stanford University.
Terry also served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve.
