John CranleyBack

John Cranley is a consultant in the Corporate Solutions practice group of KMK Consulting and is also Of Counsel to Keating Muething & Klekamp PLL in the law firm’s Municipal Finance group. John’s focus is to serve KMK Consulting corporate clients with site selection analysis including structuring and negotiation of various government incentive programs, particularly those dealing with tax increment financing and programs offered by local public sector entities.

Most recently, John Cranley served as a councilman for the City of Cincinnati, elected to four consecutive terms following his initial appointment in 2000. While in office, he championed dozens of public/private real estate developments through City Council including, but not limited to, Kroger, Convergys, Humana and other major real estate developments such as Fountain Square, Queen City Square and Keystone Tower. John drafted and led the effort to create area wide TIF Districts that are the key funding sources for Cincinnati’s two major catalytic development corporations, 3CDC and the Uptown Consortium.

John is also a partner in a local real estate development company, City Lights Development, that focuses on mixed use commercial and residential projects.

John Cranley was twice the Democratic nominee for the U.S. House of Representatives in Ohio’s First District, occurring on both sides of his 2004 Distinguished Public Service Award bestowed by the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation.

John was the Co-Founder and Director of the Ohio Innocence Project which helps free wrongfully convicted inmates utilizing DNA evidence. In that role he also helped raise its initial endowment of over $2M for the organization. In this role he also taught election law as a visiting lecture at the University of Cincinnati’s Law School.

John is a graduate of John Carroll University, Harvard Law School and Harvard Divinity School. He and his wife live in Cincinnati where he remains one of Cincinnati’s most visible leaders.
