Strategic Alliance with Point A Consulting Adds Health Science and Urban Planning Focus to Economic Development Services for KMK Consulting Clients
Cincinnati, OH, April 3, 2007 - KMK Consulting Company, LLC (KMKC), is pleased to announce a new strategic alliance with Point A Consulting, a Louisville, Kentucky-based economic development firm. According to Jim McGraw, KMK Consulting's President, this alliance will strengthen the firm's ties to Kentucky, while adding depth in technology-based economic development and urban planning for its clients nation-wide.
McGraw emphasized the additional expertise that Point A Consulting and its principal, Steven Spalding will bring to KMK Consulting's clients: "Economic development today is technology-focused and health science is the fastest growing segment of technology across the U.S. Hardly a community exists that is not looking to capture its share of the explosive growth in the health sciences. Spalding knows that market place extremely well."
Spalding was founding CEO of the Louisville Medical Center Development Corporation (LMCDC), an organization that for the past decade has promoted the growth of the health science cluster in Kentucky's largest city. LMCDC initiatives include an urban research park and a business accelerator for health science start-ups, MetaCyte Business Lab LLC that Spalding founded. LMCDC has been successful in attracting new venture and seed capital to Louisville and secured millions in government grants for the research park.
"KMK Consulting has spearheaded some of the most effective economic development strategies in the business, for clients all across the country", said Spalding. The opportunity to join forces with Jim and the KMK Consulting team provides Point A with access to additional regional and national clients, while providing synergy and value-added from our combined capabilities".
McGraw also noted that the partnership with Point A Consulting would strengthen KMK Consulting's portfolio of services, from managing large-scale community visioning projects to creating corporate community relations strategies. "Private and public companies rely on KMK Consulting in making strategic investments in communities where their employees live. And, understanding what makes a city competitive is more than just a numbers game to find the lowest tax rate, when companies are considering where to expand or relocate. Steven's broad expertise gets at the heart of what makes progressive cities tick.
"Steven Spalding has spent his career working in almost every aspect of economic development, from strategic plans to market studies -- even designing new organizations from scratch. He is above all a strategist and a consensus-builder. He sees opportunities where other people just see raw facts or obstacles. He has a track record for bringing the leadership of civic organizations together to make decisions and act on those opportunities."
Before being tapped to lead LMCDC in 1997, Spalding held senior management positions at the Louisville Chamber of Commerce where he led major visioning and strategic planning efforts that are credited with transforming Louisville into a "hot spot" of the New Economy and a vibrant center for entrepreneurship. While at the Chamber he also led a civic committee that studied ways to merge Louisville's city and county governments, and was active in promoting the Chamber's Minority Economic Development efforts.
During 1984 to 1991 Spalding worked for Louisville Central Area, Inc., a downtown business organization where he created a highly successful Business Improvement District that supplements downtown services such as security and marketing. Previous to relocating to his hometown of Louisville, Spalding worked at the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation and the Philadelphia City Planning Commission, where he worked on revitalizing older industrial neighborhoods and converting closed military bases to civilian uses.
