KMK Consulting Senior Consultant to Run for Kentucky Secretary of State
Cincinnati, December 20, 2002- KMK Consulting is proud to announce that Merwin "Trey" Grayson has entered the race for Kentucky Secretary of State. Trey is recognized as one of the top young leaders in Kentucky and was named one of forty-four "Kentucky Leaders for the New Century" by the Kentucky Press Association and the Shakertown Roundtable. He serves on the boards of a number of statewide organizations including the Kentucky Governor’s Scholars Program, the Commonwealth Fund for KET and the Kentucky Advocates for Higher Education. Trey has been involved with the Republican party in Northern Kentucky for a number of years. He chaired Young Professionals for Bush-Cheney during the 2000 election and has worked on the campaigns of Rep. Jon Draud, Boone County Attorney-Elect, J.R. Schrand, Kenton County Judge-Executive Dick Murgatroyd and U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell. In a news release announcing his campaign, Trey said, "I am overwhelmed by the encouragement that I have received from all regions of the state. For too long, the constitutional offices have served as musical chairs and retirement homes for career politicians. Kentucky is ready for new leadership." "The Secretary of State's office is used every day by lawyers and business people, like me. Therefore, I have asked a team of lawyers and other users of the office to work with me to develop a plan to make the office even more business-friendly, especially to those that want to bring jobs to Kentucky. Some initial recommendations include allowing business entities to be created on-line and providing for more on-line filing of corporate records. In addition, I plan to work with the legislature to improve the integrity of our electoral process." Trey graduated with honors from Harvard College (A.B., Government, 1994) and from the University of Kentucky (J.D./M.B.A. 1998) where he was one of the first two Bert Combs Scholars, a member of the Kentucky Law Journal, and Order of the Coif. He is a lifelong resident of Kenton County and currently resides in Park Hills with his wife, the former Nancy Humphrey of Lexington, and their daughter, Alexandra.
