KMKC President & CEO Discusses Target Omaha

Cincinnati, July 31, 2002- KMK Consulting Company President & CEO Jim McGraw was interviewed about the Target Omaha Program in last month’s ON TARGET, the economic development organization’s bi-monthly publication. Jim, who has worked with Target Omaha since its inception in 1994, reported that Omaha’s $1.8 billion in downtown/riverfront development has kept the Omaha market competitive during the current economic times.

“There’s nothing like this being done in this size market in the Midwest. We have a whole new product to sell workers and companies on why they should be in Omaha.”

Omaha also has an edge because of the leaders who understand the value of investing in the city’s core, he said. “It’s another incredible illustration of the private sector leadership this community was blessed with. This place is still unsurpassed in its ability to be driven by great private sector leadership.”

Omaha’s safe location and low cost of doing business are also attractions for businesses. “Omaha is becoming more attractive nationally in the wake of 9/11. People and businesses are rethinking where they want to be.”

The Omaha area has a competitive advantage during the current economic downturn because of the cost of doing business. “Companies are looking more closely at cost structure. This is where Omaha can be competitive.”

Because of today’s economy, organizations such as Target Omaha have fewer prospects to work with. A wise strategy is to develop relationships now so, when the economy improves, Target Omaha is top of mind, he said. “When times are challenging, you have to work harder to make sure everybody loves you.”
