The publication based its findings on a poll of its readers- 52,000 directors and general counsels of publicly held companies traded on the New York and American stock exchanges and the NASDAQ market. The magazine’s July/August issue ranks the top 21 firms in America as well the top firms in 50 metropolitan areas. Ten New York City firms made the top 21 list, with the top 5 firms coming from New York. Chicago and Los Angeles each had three firms in the top 21, with Cleveland, Dallas, Palo Alto, Houston and Washington all placing a firm in the top list.
