Tampa Bay Named 2002 Mega-Market of the Year by Southern Business & Development
Cincinnati, July 7, 2002- KMK Consulting Company is proud to announce that Tampa Bay has been named the mega-market of the year by Southern Business & Development Magazine. The publication recognizes outstanding achievements in economic development in five categories including mega-market (2,000,000 population or more). Tampa Bay won this year’s Mega-Market of the Year in the South by replacing Baltimore/Washington/Northern Virginia, a market twice Tampa Bay's size. Tampa Bay’s economic development highlights included Merck Medco's two pharmaceutical-related expansions, a Capital One expansion, a Raymond James expansion, several large, high-quality customer service centers, two power plants and a desalinization plant, among many others. This recognition by S B & D comes on the heels of Site Selection Magazine naming the Tampa Bay Partnership as one of the top economic development organizations in the nation. The Tampa Bay Partnership is the private, independent, not-for-profit, marketing organization serving Hernando, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk and Sarasota counties. Founded in 1994, the Partnership's mission is to increase market visibility for the Tampa Bay region and to facilitate and expedite the site selection process for relocating and expanding companies. The Tampa Bay Partnership, under the direction of its President and CEO Stuart Rogel, is a long-time client of KMK Consulting Company. Jim McGraw, President and CEO of KMK Consulting, served as the original architect of the Partnership and is currently undertaking a major strategic planning process for the organization. Jim McGraw said “I could not be more proud of the recognition the Tampa Bay Partnership has received over the last few weeks. We are honored to have the opportunity to continue the relationship that started eight years ago with the organization’s inception. I have greatly enjoyed working with Stuart and the key stakeholders in the region to strengthen the area’s economy.” For the complete Southern Business & Development article, click here.
