Roswell Park Cancer Institute and SUNY at Buffalo Retain KMKC to Develop a Center for Advanced Technology (CAT) at Buffalo
Cincinnati, November 13, 2000- KMK Consulting Company's Technology Initiatives Solution Group today announced its ongoing relationship with Roswell Park Cancer Institute and State University of New York at Buffalo in the creation of a Center for Advanced Biomedical/Biomedical Engineering Technologies in Buffalo. KMKC is in the second phase of its engagement with RPCI and UB where it will identify target markets and New York state corporations with the potential to develop relationships resulting in a pipeline of additional projects and technical assistance contracts.
Both RPCI and UB have been active in sponsoring and conducting various initiatives focused on creating and growing a bio-medical cluster in the Buffalo-Niagara region. One such initiative is the development of a joint program in biomedical technology and technology transfer that would lead to jobs creation through the establishment of new, bio-tech start-ups, or expansion of existing businesses through new or improved product lines. This joint program will be modeled after New York State's "Center for Advanced Technology" (CAT) Program. Preliminary research has been conducted to identify "best practices" for a biomedical technology transfer and business development center. Additionally, RPCI and UB will initially receive in excess of $1 Million legislative appropriation to be disbursed as seed funds for the most promising discoveries and inventions emerging from the respective institutions' biomedical research programs. KMKC, in the third phase of its engagement will provide the scientific review and analysis for an initial group of technologies whereby KMKC's recommendations will be used to allocate this seed funding to those most qualified.
"All of us at KMK are very pleased to be partnering with the State of New York and such esteemed institutions as Roswell Park and the University at Buffalo. We have assembled an outstanding team led by Steve Scherer and we are excited to be bringing the Buffalo Niagara region into the forefront of competitive commercial transfer in the biomedical engineering cluster," said Jim McGraw, Managing Director of KMK Consulting. "This initiative is a critical element of the overall regional economic development business plan being implemented by the Buffalo Niagara Enterprise," added McGraw.
