KMKC Selected to Develop Economic Blueprint for Tucson Region

July 31, 2006

Cincinnati, July 31, 2006 - KMK Consulting Company, LLC (KMKC) is proud to announce that it has been selected to lead the development of a long-range strategic plan for the Tucson region. The project will be coordinated by Tucson’s regional economic development corporation, Tucson Regional Economic Opportunities (TREO). TREO’s strategic plan will be developed to work in unison with the overarching vision for the community currently being developed by the Southern Arizona Leadership Council (SALC), a consortium of regional CEO’s created in 1997 to provide collective leadership, guidance and input into some of the most significant policy issues facing the Tucson community.

KMKC has assembled a world-class team for this project by partnering with IO, Inc., Ady International, Donald T. Iannone & Associates, Robert J. Grow, and PricewaterhouseCoopers National Economic Consulting Group. Collectively, the team represents highly recognized experts in the areas of:

  • Global Economic Development and Corporate Strategy;
  • Global Corporate Location;
  • Community Education Based Competitive Strategy;
  • Regional Visioning for Community Prosperity; and
  • High Performance Economic Development Organizations

The KMK Consulting team will be assessing Tucson’s current economy and economic development strategies, programs, and financing. The team will then collaborate to create a blueprint for Tucson’s economic future, incorporating best practices from similar communities and Tucson’s existing commercial assets. The KMK Consulting team was awared this assignment after a lengthy national search process conducted by TREO.

As one of the fastest growing communities in the Southwest and a metro population that will reach one million in 2007, community and business leaders from the Tucson region recognized the need for a single, focused economic development effort to ensure sustained vitality for the region’s future. To meet this need, TREO was formed on July 1, 2005 as a private, nonprofit corporation to serve as the lead economic development agency for the greater Tucson region and its surrounding community partners including Pima County, City of Tucson, City of South Tucson, Town of Oro Valley, Town of Marana, City of Sierra Vista, City of Benson, and Town of Sahuarita.

TREO’s year one roadmap includes four goals to serve as the foundation on which the organization will grow and move forward.

  1. Establish TREO as a world class economic development organization
  2. Deliver a balanced offering of valuable services and programs to support TREO’s mission
  3. Establish TREO as the leading source for economic research in Southern Arizona
  4. Invest in long term planning to chart an achievable, sustainable economic development course for the future.
